In 2016, Manavari started as an effort to bring high quality , pesticide free, rain-fed millets from farm to fork at affordable prices to consumers and remunerative profits for farmers. Millets require very little water, are more nutritious than rice and wheat, have high fiber content and low glycemic index (especially good for diabetes patients). Millets are slowly becoming a part of the urban diet again and consumption grew by 25% between 2001 and 2012 (Michael Raj and Shanmugam 2013). Unfortunately, support for millets is weak. Millets farmers typically belong to the weakest segments of society, using subsistence farming methods and depending on rains for irrigation. Over the years, we have expanded our work to include farmers and fresh produce categories from across India.

Manavari aims to address some of the market distortions and increase farmer profitability in a sustainable manner. We source directly from farmers at 10% higher rates than the prevailing market and share profits.
